Mountain Roots cultivates a resilient and equitable food system in Gunnison Valley, Colorado, by enhancing healthy connections between earth, food, and community. We foster knowledge, teach skills, and provide opportunities that ensure access to affordable, nutritious food that is regionally based and sustainably produced.
Community Garden Dig In Days!
Join us every Sunday in April from 1-4 pm for our 2024 project kick-off to get our gardens up and running. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, everyone is welcome to dig in and have a blast! After all the gardening fun, we'll treat you to a delicious meal and enjoy some quality time together in our beautiful garden.

Explore your world with our trip-based outdoor nature adventure camps. Offered in Crested Butte & Gunnison, for grades K-5.
WHAT WE DO
Regenerative Farming
Regenerating the land, building soil, training young farmers, and providing food for our community. In addition to 2 in-ground farms, this includes 4 container farms that operate all year long, expanding our growing season significantly.
Farm to School
We teach youth about environmental science, nutrition & healthy eating, growing food, cooking, and more. This deepends their connection to earth, food, and community and builds a foundation for a healthy future.
Food Security
Developing individuals’ self-sufficiency and providing nutritious produce across the Gunnison valley and western Colorado. From free boxes of produce to creating community in our gardens, food security reaches many aspects of our valley.
HEALTHY FUTURES
We build bridges from college to career for young adults seeking to gain experience in agriculture, youth education, community food security, and the environment.
FOOD SECURITY: BACKYARD HARVEST PROGRAM
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Our Backyard Harvest program currently delivers food boxes to over 150 households every week, and we need YOUR help! Volunteers help us pack the boxes on Tuesdays at 10:00am at the 513 South Main Street, and deliver them on Tuesdays from 12:30pm - 3:00pm. Whether you can volunteer once or every week, we'd love to have you.
