Seeds of Change

From Seed to Harvest: Your Support Makes It Possible

Federal cuts threaten nearly 76% of Mountain Roots programs that feed families, teach children, and steward our land. Help us keep them growing.

This year, our Spring fundraising campaign is focused on Seeds of Change, the programs and investments we nurture at Mountain Roots for immediate and lasting impact on the Gunnison Valley community and across Colorado.

However, we are now challenged in our ability to nurture positive change at Mountain Roots.

Last Friday, the federal government cancelled over $400 million in funding for AmeriCorps Programs nationwide. This will prematurely end the service of nearly 300 AmeriCorps members in Colorado, 25 of whom are managed by Mountain Roots.

AmeriCorps members are the “Boots on the Ground” that get things done —

Every year, 7,526 Gunnison Valley residents depend on the programs and services our AmeriCorps members provide to our community.

Through Mountain Roots, 18 AmeriCorps service members contribute throughout Gunnison Valley by packing a delivering fresh food boxes to families to combat food insecurity, empower local residents to cook healthy meals on a budget, manage community gardens that produce food on a community scale, educate local children in a hands-on way through our many youth programs, and become leaders in local regenerative agriculture.

We urge you to consider making a one-time donation – or a recurring online gift – and support Mountain Roots today.  Your generosity is needed now more than ever to ensure our ability to continue serving Gunnison Valley and across Colorado.

Our Work

Mountain Roots cultivates a resilient food system in Gunnison Valley, Colorado, by enhancing healthy connections between earth, food, and community. We foster knowledge, teach skills, and provide opportunities that ensure access to affordable, nutritious food that is regionally based and sustainably produced.

WHAT WE DO

Regenerative Farming

Regenerating the land, building soil, training young farmers, and providing food for our community. In addition to 2 in-ground farms, this includes 4 container farms that operate all year long, expanding our growing season significantly.

Farm to School

We teach youth about environmental science, nutrition & healthy eating, growing food, cooking, and more. This deepends their connection to earth, food, and community and builds a foundation for a healthy future.

Food Security

Developing individuals’ self-sufficiency and providing nutritious produce across the Gunnison valley and western Colorado. From free boxes of produce to creating community in our gardens, food security reaches many aspects of our valley.

HEALTHY FUTURES

We build bridges from college to career for young adults seeking to gain experience in agriculture, youth education, community food security, and nature.
